travel-videos-move-eat-learn

I’ve seen many travel video clips on web before and nothing have captured my attention like the ones presented below. Fine! To be honest, it could be “Where the Hell is Matt?” before I saw these.

It’s about a trip of a lifetime made by three guys named Rick Mereki (director), Tim White (producer/photographer), and Andrew Lees (actor). They traveled around the world for 44 days, covered 11 countries, took 18 flights/total stretch of 38000 miles, with 2 cameras and almost filmed a terabyte (~ 1000GB) of footage — all to spin 3 avid/challenging linear themes rooted in movement, learning and food into 3 awesome short films each about 1 minute long. Think about the Herculean effort required by the trio on editing process, converting 44 days travel experience into 3 minutes. It’s just mind-blowing!

O.K. Without further ado, let me present you 3 spellbinding travel video clips / A 6 week expedition of a lifetime jam-packed into three high-spirited minutes titled “Move, Eat, Learn.” (+ a bonus one to keep you moving.) Sit back and enjoy the experience!

Note: All these videos can be played in 720p HD quality. Do watch it in High-definition. You can change the video quality settings from navigation bar below the video.

2. EAT

3. LEARN

As you can see, each video attributes a unique technique of narration; with “Move” comprising of impressive group of scenarios/cuts inter-weaved together at a more or less trance/convulsion-effecting frame rate. “Eat” commences with split-screen graphics close-up shots of food, and then moves to close-ups of the eating act itself — will indeed make you starve. But the last clip “Learn” deserves a special mention where the genuine storytelling is. You can feel an unadulterated aspiration to unite with different people/societies and traditions and I believe that is where all the fantastic travel tales begin.

Bonus video clip: DANCE — Where the Hell is Matt?

Honestly, this post could not be completed without mentioning this one! Matt Harding traveled 42 countries over 14 months and tempted the locals to join in the dancing fun. The utter craziness yet full of life, and happiness of Matt’s escapades will keep you in good spirits long after you’ve saw them — and present you a serious case of irresistible impulse to travel.

The traveler was active; he went strenuously in search of people, of adventure, of experience.  The tourist is passive; he expects interesting things to happen to him.  He goes “sight-seeing.”  – Daniel J. Boorstin

Absolutely! These are not like any of the thousands of travel videos out there, little more than that. No wonder, wonderful photography, great narration et al made these as viral as it gets. Thank you.

  3. This is a of course a lovely metaphor for our lives. Are we tourists or travellers? Are we waiting passively for our life to happen or do we seek out the adventure, the joy, the challenges?

Great videos but also an even better message.

That’s the way to go about it, my friend. Instead of just seeing these in entertainment point of view, if we’re able to take some kind of clues/inspiration, nothing like that. Thank you, Ash.
