Do you believe that people who are gifted to conveniently develop their network utilizing Twitter partake some practices or universal traits?

Over the past few months, I had the chance to observe and interact with many different Twitter Titans, which oftentimes have a large influence in their community.

I found 10 different traits that most of them showed and which anyone starting out on Twitter can easily adopt and implement.

1. They are consistent

The first and foremost reason that they are Power Tweeps stems from the fact that they are consistent. They are committed to spending their time on Twitter and constantly share great and high quality content.

I believe this is the only way to come out on top if you are in the game for the long run. Don’t go for quick wins, but try to implement a sustained and consistent strategy that works for you.

2. They try out new things and are innovative

With things regarding Twitter and Social Media moving faster than ever before it is essential to remain open minded to try out new things at all times.

The only way to stay on top of the game is to constantly improve by trying out new tools and strategy. Of course consolidating them with your long-term goals and values is important.

3. They are approachable and responsive

What I love about Twitter and their celebrities is that most of them stay approachable and highly responsive. This happens even though they gather a huge following and are often times super busy.

Showing others that you are still open to answer any questions and engage is also crucial to achieve ongoing Twitter success.

4. They are everywhere

With 1#, Consistency also needs to go together with a certain amount of effort. Sending one tweet each day may be consistent, but isn’t quite impactful.

What I saw is that many of the Power Tweeps go into considerable effort to find the best links from the darkest corners on the web; they comment on many blogs and retweet thoughtfully and plentifully.

5. They are proactive and helpful

In a similar manner that most of them stay responsive, they also remain to take many initiatives themselves.

I was oftentimes overwhelmed by ongoing support and help offered even though an initial contact was made way back. Helping out when others are in need is necessary even as you turn into a Power User.

6. They are entertaining

What I found interesting is that very few of the people that are influential on Twitter remain dead serious all day long. They joke around and show that there is a certain fun factor allowed even though some are usually strictly professional.

After all this is also what makes interacting on Twitter much more enjoyable and relaxed. Not taking yourself and life too serious is another highly frequent factor.

7. They are knowledgeable and proficient in their niche

This nearly goes without saying, yet it is easily overlooked. In case you aim to become a Power Tweep yourself, it is imperative that you show a profound understanding in the field you are appearing in.

Learn from the best and suck in as much knowledge and experience as you can. Then you have to start sharing and developing your thoughts on a consistent basis. I found that it accelerates success and builds trust amongst your followers.

8. They show gratitude

Another very powerful trait I found amongst a lot of high volume Twitter users is that they continue to stay thankful.

Never stop showing gratitude for others if they retweet you, share your blog posts, or mention you. After all, it is because of these conversations that Twitter is such a great place to be.

9. They are natural

Time after time, you see someone succeed on Twitter and think that copying this person will equally lead to you being successful too.

I found that all Power Tweeps I am observing show an essential form of uniqueness in their appearance. Don’t try to fake and copy others, but simply stay your humble self. It is the trait that will get you the farthest I believe.

10. They are humble and don’t get carried away by success

Many of the Power Tweeps I know of never start indulging in overly self-promotional habits or take themselves as better people.

No matter what ever happens, they remain humble and grateful for the great things happening to them. I believe it is most likely a trait necessary that got them that far.

These are the ’10 traits of the power tweeps’ I found out on Twitter that you could easily adopt/implement today. Possibly some traits may be missing out here.

Great List. What is interesting about reading your 10 tips to being great on Twitter is that I could apply the same tips to being great in real life. It is interesting how often we try to take the Social out of Media, when it is the most important ingredient.

Hi Jason, thanks for your comment.

You are so right! I believe if we act in the same way in social media as we would in real life than we can only succeed!

Yep, often we just fall into self-promotion or the like and it just doesn’t work, thanks for a great contribution here! :)

  7. Good tips Leo. One of the more important points which I’m glad you mentioned is the ‘Gratitude’ one. Great tweeps always reply to each and every mentions & that defines their gratitude.

      Mani,

      Thanks for stopping by today!

Yep, indeed gratitude is a key player and I think it really marks a power tweeps, thanks for pointing it out again. :)

  8. As you say, taking yourself too seriously is a mistake. Twitter is a party, as @mqtodd tells me. But then again, add value. This too, goes far.

    • Leo says:

Hi Saul, great to see you here.

Oh, I really like that description from Michael @MQTodd, indeed it is a bit like a party, but there is always value too. Just like you say, I think this is what will bring you far.

  9. Great post! I absolutely agree with all 10 traits. I might also add “Sharing” – the most successful Tweeps are ‘Rocking the Retweet’ and sharing the blogs posts & links of their fellow Twitter friends.
    :-)

    • Leo says:

      Hi Misty,

Thanks a lot for the kind words, glad you liked all 10! :)

Yep, very true, I think the sharing factor is another vital one. Power tweeps do it all the time and keep in touch with their fellow tweeters.

      Thanks for stopping by :)
